In the end this is what I came up with I thought it was sleek well presented and actually looked quite proffessional

Sunday 3 September 2017

We spent a lot of time creating our content for the project and what this came down to was 10 statemnts that would serve as a sort of 10 commandments for us to live by as graphic designers

1. As A designer I will NEVER BE AFRAID TO STEP OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE
2. As A designer I will ALWAYS TEST THE BRIEF TO SEE HOW I CAN PUSH IT
3. As A designer I will NEVER WORK FOR THE EXPOSURE WITHOUT PAY
4. As A designer I will I WILL ALWAYS RESPECT THE POWER OF DESIGN
5. As A designer I will I WILL USE THE POWER OF DESIGN RESPONSIBLY
6. As A designer I will NEVER BE AFRAID TO PUSH BEND OR BREAK THE RULES
7. As A designer I will ALWAYS LOOK FOR NEW AND EXCITING PROJECTS
8. As A designer I will ACCEPT THE FACT THAT I SHALL NEVER STOP LEARNING
9. As A designer I will TRY TOO INTRODUCE MY PERSONALITY TO MY WORK
10. As A designer I will NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE COMIC SANS

Right from the start I knew I wanted to do something along the lines of a secret/ most wanted file. I started looking at most wanted posters and and old classified files to help me get an idea of the visual direction I wanted to go in.  Here are few examples of the stuff I was looking at. I Liked the idea of recreating that typriter feel in some way. I also like how everthing is very plain clean and simple I thought this could be something I could recreate.

CV

For my CV I didn't want to change much as I was very happy with my outcome from the last project. I even managed to get a design job using it. I think most of the reason I did badly was because I didn'y have much support work. So I decided too try and outline the process of I made the CV and what went into it.
Finally I Brought this into indesign and began experimenting with how this could interact with my body text. I decided upon this in the end just laying it over the top. I thought it looked most natural and really created the mood I was going for
Next I scanned this layout into photoshop and started to play around with it deleting the background then moving parts around, increasing the size of certain parts generally just improving the layout a little bit at a time. Here you see the layout I decided upon.
Next I Got a load of Newspapers and went to town cutting them up until I had loads of different letters in all shapes and sizes. Then I started moving them around on the page trying out loads of different combinations until I found one I liked. WHen I did I stuck it down on tracing paper to see how It could interact whith my columns of text. Below are images of this process

I Felt as if I was going in the right direction but it wasn't quite what I was going for. I started to look online for inspiration. I started looking at posters other people had made using old newspapers and there were a lot of different ideas for inspiration. Here is a selection of those. I also Started looking at ransom notes made out of cut up newspaper and thought that this might be an interesting direction as it would certainly add too the mood of mystery that I was going for.

Here You can see a continuation from my last post. I Started looking at the layout of old newspapers the grid systems how they are layed out I found it all quite interesting. I began trying to recreate this I set up different layouts and began playing around with how I could layout my body text in and headers in indesign. Below you can see a few examples of that.

Obviously for my repeat I needed a whole new direction so I started to think about the work daring. I knew I wanted to create something with a bit of mystery too it. As traveling can also be a wonderful mysterious thing. I started looking at old newspaper as I felt they can create this mood that I was going for. A news story from the past where? when? how? You see old newspaper you cant help but ask these questions.

world map

So here it is the fruits of my labour... after many hours this is what I ended up with. I started off by tracing out a world map out line. I then set a basic baseline grid over it and attempted to set the text on top of this. However this ended up being too difficult to stick too due to the complexity of the shape. Where I could however I did use a constant leading in order to maintain some sort of structure. I wanted the layout to be a bit jumpy and unpredictable as I felt this would pair well with the theme of travelling. I also increased the size of certain words in order to emphasize them. Over all I'am quite happy with how this turned out and makes for an interesting way to present my body text.

sketching

I started sketching out lots of different ideas but i had a strong feeling from the start I wanted  to have a map made out of text so I think I'am going to push ahead with this and create something similer to my last drawing

statement

Now it is time to turn my survey results into simple value types that are easy to practice through our project.

The word I chose is stimulation  the words that go with it are excitement, novelty, change, daring, excited, challenging, exhilarated, moved, enthusiastic, varied, creative, imaginative, original, unconventional.

My final statement is. I'am going to explore the world by being daring

I also decided upon my body text

My dream is to see the world and experience as many culture as possibly. Travelling is a powerful aid to education. It provides an experience of the world. By travelling we come in connecting people of different caste, colour, creed and community to get familiarity with their tradition, culture, customs, has costumes and their style of living. This helps in the better our understanding of the world. It sharpens our intellect and broaden us our outlook/ horizons. Travelling offers us the first hand knowledge of the world. It helps us shed off all our prejudices. It develops our person and our communication skills. It offers much more than mere bookish knowledge to the development of all around personality. It gives  us the reticle knowledge. We get only the sketchy picture of which is not complete. By travelling we see people, places with our own eyes. Visual impression is this impression. It remains in our
mind for a long time. Objects like history, geography and social sciences can better through travelling, it provides us first-hand knowledge about these things. Geography appears to be a dull and uninteresting subject if it is taught in the classroom. But when the Merits are taken to a trip to the Himalayan regions or Gangetic plains the learning becomes interesting. Travelling turns this boring subject into a lively and absorbing one. When you apply this to other subjects such as language art and literature it tends to have a similar effect.  It makes the world and life a much more interesting place. Travelling also helps when it comes to being more understanding and accepting of other cultures needs, beliefs and way life and can help lead to a better stronger more understanding world.  It creates goodwill. It brings people closer. Deepens our relations with various states and countries. So it is an undertaking which I believe we should all aim to achieve

Here is a mind map I made during this process

Value Survey

During week 2 I filled out my value survey. This helped give me direction. It gave me an idea of what motivates me and what drives me in life. I found theses quite interesting.

As you can see I scored quite highly on stimulation and hedonism. I would definitely agree with this as I'am quite easy distracted by outside stimulation
